Advanced Open Water Diver

After earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification, the next step is the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. This program builds confidence, expands your skills, and introduces you to new types of diving while keeping the focus on fun and exploration.

You’ll complete five adventure dives—including required Deep and Underwater Navigation dives—plus three electives such as Drift, Night, Wreck, or Peak Performance Buoyancy. Each dive is guided by a PADI Instructor, giving you hands-on experience as you discover new underwater adventures.

By the end, you’ll be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, ready for deeper dives and exciting new training opportunities.

Medical Requirements

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.

Avoid disappointment, download and review the PADI Diver Medical Form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.

You may also need to buy or rent exposure protection depending on the diving environment.
