SCUBA DIVING AT THE U.S. SPACE & ROCKET CENTER
At the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, visitors can experience scuba diving in the Underwater Astronaut Trainer (UAT), a 24-foot-deep neutral buoyancy tank originally designed to simulate the weightlessness of space. This unique program, offered through Space Camp’s Advanced Space Academy and public sessions, allows participants to don scuba gear and perform guided tasks underwater, mimicking the challenges astronauts face during extravehicular activities. The experience combines introductory scuba training with hands-on space-themed exercises, providing both fun and educational value. Open to participants aged 14 and up, the session requires basic swimming skills and medical clearance, making it accessible yet authentic in its training approach. Whether you’re a space enthusiast, aspiring diver, or simply seeking an unforgettable adventure, diving in the UAT offers a rare chance to explore the intersection of science, education, and exploration.
